Air Peace Attributes Flight Disruptions in Abuja to Fuel Shortages and Weather Conditions

Nigeria's largest airline, Air Peace, has confirmed that its operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja faced significant disruptions recently, primarily due to a shortage of Jet A1 aviation fuel. This situation has not only impacted Air Peace but has also affected other airlines operating from the airport, leading to a series of delays and cancellations that have left many passengers frustrated.

In a statement released by the airline's management, they addressed the concerns raised by passengers following reports and footage circulating on various media platforms. The statement emphasized that the delays were initially caused by the unavailability of fuel, which has since been resolved, allowing affected flights to resume operations. However, the airline noted that their Abuja–Maiduguri service could not proceed as planned due to unfavorable Visual Flight Rules (VFR) conditions.

“Air Peace wishes to provide an update regarding the flight disruptions experienced at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja... Upon the availability of fuel, our affected flights commenced operations accordingly,” the airline stated.

Despite the resumption of most flights, the airline was unable to operate the Abuja–Maiduguri route because, as conditions changed, the extension for the flight was no longer feasible. The airline explained that the aircraft could not operate beyond sunset, leading to further cancellations. Throughout the disruptions, Air Peace assured that passengers were kept informed and provided with updates regarding their flights.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges within Nigeria's aviation sector, particularly regarding fuel supply and operational constraints due to weather conditions. As the country continues to grapple with these issues, airlines and authorities are urged to find sustainable solutions to prevent future disruptions and ensure a reliable travel experience for passengers.
