The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has taken a significant step towards the 2027 general elections by adopting President Bola Tinubu as its presidential candidate. This announcement was made by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, during the launch of APGA's nationwide election campaign held at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra State, where the party also unveiled over 253 candidates vying for various elective positions across the country.
Soludo, who serves as the National Leader of APGA, articulated that the decision to support Tinubu was rooted in the necessity for progressive political entities to unite. He highlighted the party's historical precedent, recalling that APGA had previously endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 and 2015 elections. This continuity, according to Soludo, is emblematic of APGA's commitment to fostering collaboration among progressive forces in Nigeria.
In his speech, Soludo pointed to the Federal Government's dedication to the South-East, particularly in the realm of infrastructure development, as a driving factor behind the party's endorsement of Tinubu. He stated, “Today, as we unveil our campaign as the foremost progressive party in Nigeria, we are also officially adopting President Bola Tinubu as the presidential candidate of APGA. We are repeating it in 2027 because progressives are working together to support a President who loves Ndi Igbo and Ndi Anambra.”
The campaign launch also served as a platform for APGA to emphasize its role in advocating for the interests of the South-East, with Soludo urging party members and supporters to engage in strategic voting to ensure that their voices are heard in the upcoming elections. As the political landscape evolves, APGA's endorsement of Tinubu may play a crucial role in shaping the dynamics of the election and influencing voter sentiment across the region.
