Christian Association of Nigeria Appeals for Reinstatement of Kaduna Monarchs Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna's Chikun Local Government Area has urged Governor Uba Sani to restore traditional rulers ousted under former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, aiming to foster reconciliation and political support for the APC. This appeal came during a meeting with former senator Shehu Sani, who sought the association's backing for the upcoming elections.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State has made a formal appeal to Governor Uba Sani for the reinstatement of traditional rulers who were removed during the tenure of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. This request is seen as a strategic move to promote reconciliation within the community and to bolster political support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
During a recent meeting with 48 zonal leaders of CAN, former senator and APC Kaduna Central senatorial candidate, Shehu Sani, emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among religious and political leaders. The chairman of CAN in Chikun stressed that reinstating the traditional rulers would not only mend relations within the affected communities but also enhance the APC's standing among constituents, a crucial factor as the elections draw near.
In addition to the appeal for reinstatement, the association urged the governor to elevate the status of the Sa Gbagyi traditional stool to first-class. This request highlights the community's desire for greater recognition within the state's political landscape, especially given that Chikun, which encompasses parts of Kaduna metropolis, has been underrepresented in the state cabinet, lacking a commissioner from the local government area.
“We believe that addressing these grievances will lead to increased political support for the APC-led administration,” the CAN chairman remarked.
The meeting marked a significant moment, as it was the first time a politician of Sani's stature engaged with the CAN leadership in such a manner. The association's calls for political representation reflect a growing sentiment among Chikun indigenes who feel marginalized in the current governance structure.
