Tragic Road Accident in Osun Claims Three Lives, Leaves 20 Injured

A tragic accident on Saturday in Tonkere town along the Ife-Ilesa expressway has led to the loss of three lives and left 20 others injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Osun Sector Command. The collision involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a Volkswagen Golf car, with preliminary investigations indicating that excessive speed and reckless driving were significant factors contributing to the incident.

Mr. Sunday Adebayo, the sector commander, shared the grim details in a statement from Osogbo, revealing that the deceased included two females and one male, while the injured victims comprised 11 females, nine males, and three children—two boys and one girl. Adebayo emphasized the importance of caution on the roads, stating, “Three people died. We have about 20 others who were injured in the accident. The accident happened due to speeding and dangerous driving.”

Following the crash, FRSC patrol teams from Ife and Ilesa were dispatched to the scene to conduct rescue operations and manage the aftermath. The injured were promptly transported to an undisclosed hospital for medical care. Adebayo reiterated the necessity for drivers to adhere to speed limits, stressing that reduced speed can significantly lessen the severity of injuries and fatalities in road incidents.

In light of this tragedy, the sector commander assured the public that the FRSC would continue its public awareness campaigns and road safety initiatives throughout Osun State. He called on all motorists to exercise extreme caution and to remain vigilant while driving, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility that can help prevent avoidable deaths on the highways.
