The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State has confirmed the unfortunate death of a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in a road accident that occurred on Monday near Agodi Gardens in Ibadan. According to Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi, the tragic incident involved a collision between a motorcycle, which was carrying the corps member, and an articulated truck.
During an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Commander Dahunsi detailed the circumstances of the crash, stating that the motorcycle rider sustained a leg fracture while the corps member succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Emergency rescue operations were promptly initiated, leading to the body being transported to the State Hospital morgue, while the injured rider was taken to the University College Hospital (UCH) for immediate medical care.
“We recorded a traffic crash today around Agodi Gardens within the Ibadan metropolis. It involved a truck and a motorcycle carrying a corps member. Unfortunately, we lost the corps member, and the rider also sustained a fracture in his leg,” Dahunsi remarked. This incident has raised concerns regarding road safety protocols and the need for heightened awareness among road users.
Mrs. Abimbola Faniyi, the Public Relations Officer for NYSC in Oyo State, indicated that efforts are currently underway to gather more information about the deceased, including her Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). The NYSC and local authorities are expected to address this tragic incident and its implications for the safety of corps members and road users alike in the state.
