Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has made a compelling appeal to political leaders in the South-East, urging them to abandon opposition politics and foster closer ties with the Federal Government. Speaking at a stakeholders' meeting in Awka, which brought together members from various political parties, including the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Accord Party, Soludo emphasized the necessity of unity in advancing the region's interests.
Soludo argued that the coalition of political parties rallying behind President Bola Tinubu's re-election signifies a transformative shift in the political engagement of the South-East. He lamented the adverse effects of the opposition stance that gained traction during the 2015 general elections, insisting that it is time for the region to actively participate in governance at the national level. His remarks highlighted the need for a collective effort to reshape public perception and mobilize support for the president among the electorate.
“If 5,000 votes could attract these projects to our state and the region, imagine what would happen if we mobilised the electorate to give him massive support,” Soludo stated, referencing the limited backing President Tinubu received during the last presidential election in Anambra. He argued that this modest electoral engagement has already yielded significant developmental projects for the state, hinting at the potential for more substantial benefits should the political landscape shift towards support for the federal government.
Addressing economic concerns, Soludo acknowledged the government's strides in stabilizing foreign exchange availability and tackling fiscal challenges. While recognizing the progress made, he reiterated that more work remains to be done to ensure economic stability and growth. His call for unity and integration is seen as a pivotal move towards fostering a more collaborative political environment in the South-East, essential for the region's development.
