In a harrowing incident that unfolded late Friday night, armed herdsmen launched a brutal attack on the communities of Tse-Nyaku, Tse-Biliji, and surrounding areas within the Mbatian Council Ward of Ngenev, Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State. Reports indicate that at least nine individuals were killed, with many others injured and a number of residents still missing. The attacks began around 11 PM, instilling fear and chaos among the local populace.

Eyewitness accounts describe the assailants arriving in large numbers, unleashing a barrage of gunfire that sent residents fleeing for their lives. According to a local source who spoke under the condition of anonymity, nine bodies have been recovered thus far, while the fate of others remains uncertain. “Many people managed to escape, except for the nine who have been confirmed dead for now because their corpses have been recovered,” the source revealed, highlighting the grave situation.

Adding to the distress, it has been reported that one of the assailants is allegedly in possession of a victim's phone, using it to make calls, which raises further concerns about the plight of those still missing. The source lamented, “It is a very sad day for our people. The Sankera axis of Benue has become a shadow of itself due to the level of insecurity.” This tragic event highlights the ongoing challenges faced by communities in the region, grappling with the persistent threat of violence.

In response to the violence, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the attacks, calling for urgent action to address the escalating insecurity in Benue State. The need for enhanced security measures and support for affected communities is becoming increasingly critical as incidents like these continue to disrupt lives and livelihoods.
