The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of John Umar Shehu, a 26-year-old man from Plateau State, for allegedly impersonating a Nigerian Army personnel. The suspect is accused of attacking a potential employer and stealing his vehicle while seeking employment as a driver at a local pure water factory in Bauchi.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded on October 22, when the victim, identified as Salisu, invited Shehu for an interview and driving assessment after he expressed interest in the job. However, during the assessment, Shehu reportedly assaulted Salisu and a neighbor’s son before fleeing with the employer's vehicle, a white H-Jet motor vehicle registered as AE-278-ALK.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Habib Nafiu, revealed that the vehicle was later recovered in Jos, Plateau State, along with a stolen green Infinix Smart 5X phone. Shehu's arrest followed a petition lodged by Salisu, prompting a swift police response to the crime.
In a further search of Shehu's residence, law enforcement discovered various Nigerian Army uniforms and associated items, raising concerns about the extent of his impersonation and potential criminal activities. The police have reiterated their commitment to tackling impersonation and other related offenses, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance in reporting suspicious activities.
