During a recent campaign rally in Calabar, Vice President Kashim Shettima urged Cross River residents to renew their support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu, emphasizing the significance of the Bakassi Deep Seaport and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Representing Tinubu at the All Progressives Congress (APC) event, Shettima expressed gratitude to the electorate for their support over the past three years, characterizing their relationship with the government as an "alliance of prosperity, an alliance of opportunity."
Shettima underscored the administration's achievements and the need for continuity in leadership, stating, "You have shown us support, and you have resisted the lies and propaganda intended to misrepresent us." He called on voters to reaffirm their trust in the APC by re-electing its candidates in the upcoming elections, which he argued was vital for accountability and transparency.
Focusing on infrastructure, the Vice President detailed the transformative potential of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, asserting that it would enhance connectivity between coastal communities, facilitate the movement of goods and people, and boost tourism in the region. He projected that the highway would not only attract investments but also create thousands of jobs, thereby opening up new economic opportunities for local communities.
In addition to the highway, Shettima highlighted the Bakassi Deep Seaport as a critical project that would further enhance the economic landscape of Cross River. He emphasized that these developments are essential for fostering growth and prosperity in the region, urging residents to consider the long-term benefits of their electoral choices.
"Elected officials must account to the people who entrusted them with power," Shettima remarked, reinforcing the necessity of responsible governance.
