The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially appointed Deputy Comptroller Mamman Ali as the Acting Area Comptroller for its Adamawa/Taraba Command. This transition follows the promotion of Mohammed Tako to Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, overseeing Zone B in Kaduna.

During a handing-over ceremony held in Yola, outgoing Comptroller Tako highlighted the notable achievements of the command during his tenure, which included a significant Duty Paid Value (DPV) of seizures amounting to ₦535,975,190. He noted that these successes were attained despite stringent directives on border closures and emphasized the importance of collaboration with sister security agencies to fortify border security.

“The command recorded significant achievements during my tenure,” Tako remarked, urging officers to extend their support to Ali in his new capacity.

In his inaugural address, Acting Comptroller Ali expressed his commitment to building upon the foundation laid by his predecessor. He called for unity among the officers and collaboration with other security agencies to enhance border policing and effectively curb the rampant smuggling activities that plague the region.

The appointment of Mamman Ali comes at a crucial time as the Nigeria Customs Service aims to reinforce its operational strategies in response to ongoing challenges at the borders, particularly in the northern states of Adamawa and Taraba. Ali’s leadership is anticipated to be pivotal in navigating these challenges and safeguarding the nation’s borders.
