PCC Urges President Tinubu to Mediate in Wike-APC Governors Dispute

The political landscape in Nigeria is becoming increasingly complex as tensions rise between governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. The APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has urgently recommended that President Bola Tinubu step in to broker peace amid fears that the ongoing feud could severely undermine the party's prospects in the 2027 elections.

APC PCC spokesperson Ima Niboro expressed concerns over the clash, which has emerged largely due to Wike's initiative, the Rainbow Coalition, that seeks to unite candidates from various parties. This initiative has been met with resistance from the APC governors, who argue that it poses a direct threat to their candidates and the re-election of President Tinubu. The conflict has escalated, with Wike publicly criticizing APC governors as “politically lazy,” further deepening the divide.

The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), led by Senator Hope Uzodimma, has made it clear that they will not support any alliance that could compromise the APC’s electoral strength or jeopardize Tinubu's re-election campaign. They have voiced their discontent regarding Wike's coalition, fearing it could siphon votes and weaken their position in the upcoming polls.

“We will not participate, support, or endorse any alliance that could undermine President Tinubu’s re-election bid,” stated Uzodimma, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

As the political climate continues to shift, the need for a resolution becomes increasingly pressing. The PCC believes that President Tinubu’s experience and leadership are vital in navigating this crisis to ensure party unity and a strong front heading into the next election.
