A faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is poised to contest a recent judgment by the Court of Appeal that recognized the leadership structure supported by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike. This development marks another chapter in the ongoing internal strife within the PDP, as factions vie for control and legitimacy.
Mr. Turaki, a spokesperson for the dissenting faction, indicated that the group has engaged legal experts to review the implications of the court's ruling. "I have listened to you carefully, and I want to inform you, and through you to inform Nigerians, that since our judgment last Wednesday, we've instructed our team of lawyers to study, say and advise us accordingly," he stated.
The court's decision has intensified the already heated rivalry within the party, which has seen various leaders align with and against Wike's camp. The faction's potential appeal underscores the deep divisions that threaten to undermine the party's unity as it prepares for future electoral challenges.
“We are committed to ensuring that the democratic principles of our party are upheld, and we will explore all legal avenues available to us,” Mr. Turaki added, emphasizing the faction's determination to fight for their stance.
As the PDP approaches pivotal elections, the repercussions of this internal conflict could significantly influence its electoral prospects. The party must navigate these turbulent waters carefully to maintain cohesion and present a united front to the electorate.
