The Oyo State Police Command has successfully rescued a one-month-old baby girl who was reportedly sold for N2 million, leading to the arrest of two key suspects involved in the case. This disturbing incident unfolded in the Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan, where the police have confirmed ongoing efforts to apprehend other individuals linked to this alleged child trafficking operation.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the case was initially reported on October 15 by Mary Amos, a concerned resident of Ogunwade in Ido, who alerted authorities about her granddaughter's sudden disappearance. The investigation revealed that the baby’s mother, Cecilia, had allegedly conspired with the owner of a local health facility, aged 40, to facilitate the illicit sale of her child.

The police’s findings indicate that the transaction involved a sum of N2 million, from which Cecilia reportedly received N1 million, while the health facility owner and another accomplice, identified as Odunayo, received N500,000 each. In light of these revelations, law enforcement officials have emphasized their commitment to protecting vulnerable populations, particularly children, from such heinous crimes.

“The Oyo State Police Command reiterates its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons,” stated DSP Ayanlade.

As investigations proceed, the police are working diligently to track down Folawewo, another individual implicated in the crime. The case has raised significant concerns about child trafficking in the region, prompting calls for heightened vigilance and awareness among community members to prevent similar incidents in the future.
