New Suspect Arrested in Anambra Nursing Student Murder Case

The Anambra State Police Command has taken into custody a new suspect linked to the murder of nursing student Vivian Chilaka, whose death on June 14 has sparked significant public outrage. Identified as 26-year-old Kosisochukwu Ibekwe, the suspect’s arrest was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, during a press statement issued in Awka.

According to Ikenga, Ibekwe was apprehended on September 4 following credible information received by the police. This arrest comes after the initial investigation exonerated the landlord of the deceased, who was previously interrogated in connection with the case. Ikenga elaborated that preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect gained entry into the victim's residence by scaling the fence with a ladder.

“The suspect's initial intention was to sexually assault the deceased, but a struggle ensued, during which he allegedly used a knife to stab her, leading to her death,” stated Ikenga.

The police have indicated that Ibekwe’s claims of involvement in other similar crimes within the community are currently under investigation. This disturbing development highlights ongoing concerns regarding safety and crime in the region, particularly against women.
