Kebbe Local Government Supports 150 Displaced Households Affected by Banditry

The Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State has taken significant steps to assist families impacted by ongoing banditry, as it distributed food items and cash to 150 displaced households on Monday. This humanitarian intervention took place at the palace of the District Head of Kebbe, Sarkin Kabbin Kebbe, Hon. Lawal Labbo Margai, and was led by the council chairman, Hon. Musa Garba Kuchi.

Beneficiaries were selected from various communities severely affected by bandit attacks, including Ungushi, Girkau, Margai, Kebbe East, and Kebbe West. Many of these individuals have been forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods due to the escalating insecurity, now seeking refuge in Kebbe town. Chairman Kuchi emphasized the dire circumstances faced by these families, stating, “The beneficiaries are people who have been forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods because of insecurity and are currently taking refuge in Kebbe town.”

In his remarks, Kuchi highlighted the local government's commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by displaced households, assuring them that the council would continue to offer support amidst these challenging times. “The council remains committed to standing with our people in these difficult times. This support may be little, but it is our way of showing that you are not forgotten,” he stated. His comments reflect a determination to maintain community resilience despite the challenges posed by insecurity.

Additionally, Kuchi commended Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his ongoing efforts to bolster security measures within the state. He noted that the governor's investments in security infrastructure, including the provision of combat vehicles, are essential to restoring safety and stability to the affected communities. As the region grapples with the impact of banditry, local government initiatives like this one aim to provide immediate relief while advocating for long-term solutions to insecurity.
