INEC Introduces Real-Time Tracker to Enhance Election Preparations Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is poised to transform its electoral preparation strategy with the introduction of a pioneering real-time readiness tracker. Announced by INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan during a two-day Strategic Operational Workshop in Lagos, this tool is designed to provide immediate oversight of election preparations across Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Prof. Amupitan emphasized that the new tracker aims to replace "reactive panic with proactive management," addressing a significant gap in the Commission’s previous operational frameworks. Historically, INEC has lacked a standardized system to monitor the activities of Administrative Secretaries, which has sometimes led to inefficiencies in the electoral process. The tracker is set to change this narrative by facilitating real-time visibility into critical areas such as material distribution and staff training.

The innovation will be linked directly to the Commission's Election Monitoring and Support Centre (EMSC) dashboard and the Election Project Plan (EPP). This connection will enable Resident Electoral Commissioners, Supervising National Commissioners, and other key officials to access crucial data instantly, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and prepared as the elections approach.

Moreover, Prof. Amupitan highlighted that the tracker is not merely a tool for the upcoming 2027 elections but will serve as a long-term resource, paving the way for future generations of Administrative Secretaries. This strategic move indicates a commitment to continuous improvement in Nigeria's electoral processes, promising a more organized and efficient election cycle.

“This innovation will outlive the 2027 exercise, serving as a permanent onboarding blueprint for future generations of Administrative Secretaries,” Amupitan stated, underscoring the importance of institutional knowledge in electoral management.
