In a recent statement, Benue State's Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, expressed his gratitude towards the Department of State Services (DSS) for their prompt and professional response that led to the arrest of three suspects in connection with the violent attack on Ayilamo community. This incident, which took place on September 10, 2026, in the Logo Local Government Area, tragically resulted in the deaths of four police officers and seven other civilians, leaving many more injured and several unaccounted for.
The attack was marked by a fierce gun battle that lasted approximately seven hours, during which security operatives managed to repel the assailants. According to the Benue State Police Command, the swift action of law enforcement played a crucial role in mitigating further loss of life, yet the aftermath of the incident has left the community in mourning.
Governor Alia denounced the attack as a “despicable act” and emphasized the need for justice for the victims and their families. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, he urged the DSS to continue its investigation thoroughly and to leverage the information gathered from the suspects to uncover the full circumstances of the attack. “We must ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice,” he stated.
