Zamfara State is taking proactive steps to combat the potential threat of the Ebola virus by enhancing surveillance and screening measures at Gusau Airport. This response was triggered by the arrival of a passenger from Saudi Arabia, who exhibited a high temperature, raising alarms among health officials.
Dr. Nafisa Maradun, the State Commissioner for Health, emphasized the importance of these measures to safeguard public health. "Our actions are necessary to ensure that any potential cases are identified and managed promptly to prevent an outbreak in the state," she stated.
The screening process at the airport involves checking the temperature of all incoming travelers, particularly those arriving from regions where Ebola is endemic. This initiative aims to detect and isolate any suspected cases before they can pose a risk to the community.
Health authorities are also collaborating with national agencies to ensure that proper protocols are followed. The state government urges residents to remain vigilant and report any symptoms related to the virus, as early detection is critical in controlling infectious diseases.
