The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Suleiman Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office (HNO). At 56 years old, Kum takes over from Dr. Amos Dangut, whose tenure concluded on October 1, 2026, after serving for three years.
Moyosola Adesina, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Nigeria, confirmed Kum's appointment in a statement released on Sunday. She described him as “a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive,” emphasizing his extensive background in the field. Kum previously held the position of Deputy Registrar in the HNO's office and Senior Deputy Registrar for Test Administration.
Kum's career with WAEC began on July 17, 1998, as an Assistant Registrar II, and he has since ascended through various operational and administrative roles within the organization. Notably, he has been instrumental in implementing innovative solutions such as variable data printing, advanced code-security features in security printing, and facial-recognition biometric systems for attendance tracking.
His leadership has also extended to the successful delivery of Achievement Tests via the Computer-Based Examination mode. With a strong focus on examination security and management, Kum has established himself as a key player in enhancing the integrity and efficiency of WAEC's operations.
“Throughout his career, he has driven administrative and technological innovations, including establishing the Gusau office as a Custodial Centre,” the WAEC statement highlighted.
Originating from Plateau State, Kum holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, further solidifying his qualifications for this pivotal role in Nigeria's educational assessment landscape.
