In a bold prediction regarding the upcoming 2027 presidential elections, Minister of Works Dave Umahi has asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to make substantial electoral gains in the Southeast region of Nigeria. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Umahi expressed his belief that President Bola Tinubu will secure significantly more support than in the last election, emphasizing that the political landscape has changed dramatically.

"I will not tell you whether we win the five votes of the South-East or not, but the President is going to harvest a lot of votes in the South-East. It can never be the same like it was before," Umahi stated, showcasing his optimism regarding the party's future in the region. When pressed on how many of the five Southeast states he believed the APC could win, Umahi confidently predicted that the party would prevail in all of them, saying, "My faith is telling me we’ll win the five states."

Umahi's comments come amidst a backdrop of increasing political activity as various parties and candidates gear up for the 2027 elections. The minister also dismissed the notion that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), presents a significant threat to Tinubu or the APC’s chances. He noted, "By the way it is not only Peter Obi that is from the South-East that is contesting. We have about three or four other presidential candidates who are contesting, including candidates from the Labour Party and even a female contender."

This assertion underscores Umahi's confidence in the APC's strategy to consolidate support within the Southeast, a region where the party has historically struggled to gain traction. As the political landscape continues to evolve, Umahi's predictions may serve as a barometer for the APC's ambitions in the upcoming elections, highlighting the competitive nature of Nigeria’s political arena.
