Tragic Multiple Crashes Claim 20 Lives on Plateau Highway
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the deaths of 20 individuals in a tragic multiple vehicle accident along the Hawan Kibo-Jos route in Plateau State. Investigations suggest brake failure and loss of control as likely causes of the disaster, which involved four vehicles and left several others injured.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported a devastating multiple vehicle accident that occurred on the Hawan Kibo-Jos route in Plateau State, claiming the lives of 20 people. The incident, which took place on Friday at approximately 3:32 p.m., involved a total of 25 individuals, with the majority of the deceased being male. According to the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Osondu Ohaeri, initial investigations indicate that brake failure and loss of vehicle control were significant factors contributing to the crash.
Four vehicles were involved in the accident, including a Howo Sino truck, a Toyota Corolla, a bus operated by Yankari Express, and a motorcycle. The FRSC has identified the truck with registration number AGL 525 YN and the Corolla with registration number AB 129 M as part of the collision. Following the crash, emergency services promptly evacuated the injured victims, comprising three males and two females, to Ryom General Hospital and Vom Christian Hospital for treatment.
In a statement addressing the tragic loss, FRSC Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, highlighting the profound impact of such losses on the community. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and we wish the injured a swift recovery,” he said.
The FRSC has also taken measures to clear the highway of obstructions caused by the crash, restoring normal traffic flow in the area as investigations continue. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to maintain their vehicles to prevent such catastrophic events in the future.
