Tragic Accident Claims Life of Customs Officer in Cross River

A 54-year-old Customs officer, Mr. Etteng Ise, has died following a tragic motor accident on the Ikom-Calabar Highway in Cross River State. The accident took place near Alesi Village in the Ikom Local Government Area at approximately 2:56 p.m. on Monday, prompting a swift response from local authorities.

According to a statement released by the Cross River Police Command, Mr. Ise, who was stationed at the Mfum Border in the Etung Local Government Area, lost control of his vehicle while attempting to avoid a pothole. This unfortunate maneuver caused his vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a tree.

Emergency services rushed Mr. Ise to Holy Family Hospital in Ikom, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel. His remains have since been transferred to the hospital mortuary. The police have extended their condolences to Mr. Ise's family, colleagues, and the Nigeria Customs Service, emphasizing the loss felt by the community.

“We urge all motorists to exercise caution and remain vigilant while driving, especially on highways where road conditions can be perilous,” stated ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the police spokesman. “This tragedy serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety.”
