Tinubu: Naira Would Have Become Worthless Without Swift Economic Reforms
During a recent visit to Akwa Ibom State, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the critical role of his economic policies in stabilizing the Naira, arguing that without intervention, it would have been reduced to being transported in wheelbarrows. He called on voters, especially the youth, to participate actively in the upcoming elections to secure a brighter future for Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has made a compelling case for his administration's economic policies, asserting that the Naira would have lost its value significantly without decisive action from his government. Speaking during a visit to Akwa Ibom State, Tinubu emphasized the importance of the upcoming elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, which he described as pivotal for Nigeria's future. He urged voters to support his government and that of Governor Umo Eno, highlighting the election's potential to shape the nation's direction.
In his remarks, Tinubu pointed to the dire financial situation he inherited, noting that 27 out of the 36 state governors were struggling to pay salaries and pensions. He declared, “Today, I can say that we are out of that tunnel,” referring to the recovery from what he called the “dark tunnel of uncertainty and the calamity of a possible bankruptcy.” His assertions come as he seeks to galvanize support ahead of the consequential election.
Furthermore, Tinubu addressed the younger demographic, encouraging them to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as a means to influence the electoral process. “This coming election… will define the direction of this country,” he stated, underscoring the critical role that young voters will play in determining the future of Nigeria’s economy and governance.
“By now if we didn’t take over, if we didn’t do what we did, we will be using the wheelbarrows to move our naira about because it will have become valueless,” Tinubu remarked, defending the urgency and necessity of his economic reforms.
