The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency (PWA) has made a significant appeal for the establishment of passport offices in various states across Nigeria, citing the need for improved access and efficiency in the processing of travel documents for pilgrims preparing for the 2027 Hajj. Alhaji Aliyu Musa, the Chairman of the agency, expressed that the current centralization of passport services in Abuja and Lagos creates unnecessary administrative hurdles that complicate the operations of state welfare agencies.

Musa highlighted that the existing arrangement imposes considerable pressure on agencies tasked with coordinating large numbers of pilgrims, particularly as they face strict timelines for documentation and visa processing. "The centralisation of passport offices in Abuja and Lagos is creating administrative bottlenecks for Pilgrims Welfare Agencies across the states," he stated, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

According to Musa, the decentralization of passport services would significantly alleviate delays and enhance the overall efficiency of the pilgrimage preparation process. By allowing intending pilgrims to obtain and process their travel documents closer to their homes, the PWA believes that the logistical challenges currently encountered can be effectively mitigated. "There is an urgent need to decentralise passport services so that intending pilgrims can obtain and process their travel documents closer to their places of residence," he added.

The chairman's remarks reflect the broader concerns among many stakeholders involved in Hajj preparations, as timely access to passports and other required documents is crucial for ensuring that pilgrims can participate in the annual pilgrimage without unnecessary stress or complications. The PWA's call for action underscores the importance of proactive measures in facilitating a smooth and organized Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
