Sokoto Community Struck by Banditry Following Military Interception

The Tofa community in Sokoto State has faced a harrowing attack from armed bandits, occurring merely a week after military troops successfully intercepted an advancing group of assailants targeting the Ghandi community in Rabah Local Government Area. This recent violence underscores the escalating security crisis affecting the region, which has seen a surge in banditry and related conflicts since June.

According to local sources, the bandits launched their assault on Tofa in the early hours, causing panic and displacing several families. The military's prior success in thwarting an attack on Ghandi had temporarily alleviated fears, but the latest incident has reignited concerns about the safety and security of rural communities in Sokoto.

Residents of the affected areas have expressed frustration and despair over the ongoing violence, calling for more robust military presence and community support initiatives. “We are living in constant fear. We need help to protect our homes and families from these attacks,” said a local leader who wished to remain anonymous.

“The government must take decisive action to restore peace and security in our communities. We cannot continue to live like this,” he added.
