Sokoto Attack Victim Appeals for Funds to Undergo Critical Medical Scans

In a heartbreaking tale of survival and desperation, Jamilu Abubakar, a 30-year-old man shot during a recent bandit attack in Girkau community, Sokoto State, is currently hospitalized and unable to afford the N190,000 needed for critical medical scans. The attack, which left five individuals injured, underscores the growing threat of violence from armed groups in northern Nigeria.

Abubakar was shot in the back while returning from his farmland, where he had been harvesting millet. Speaking from his hospital bed at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), he revealed the extent of his injuries, stating, “I cannot feel anything from my chest down to my lower limbs.” His condition has left him in a state of uncertainty, as the necessary scans recommended by his doctors are financially out of reach for his family.

His father, who is physically challenged and relies on begging to support the family, adds another layer of tragedy to Abubakar's situation. “Even if they pierced me with a sharp object, I cannot feel it,” he lamented, emphasizing the dire need for assistance. The young man’s hope of raising the required funds appears bleak, as he navigates through pain and fear while contemplating his future.
