Barcelona's midfielder Rodri has publicly apologized to Valencia following accusations that he referred to the struggling La Liga team as 'very weak' during a recent match. The remarks were reportedly made in a private conversation with teammates Pau Cubarsí and Raphinha while he was seated on the bench after being substituted during Barcelona's emphatic 5-0 victory at Mestalla on Sunday.

Spanish broadcaster Movistar claimed to have lip-read Rodri, interpreting his words as a critique of Valencia's performance, particularly noting their failure to advance beyond the halfway line during the match. This sparked immediate outrage among Valencia supporters and criticism from various sections of the Spanish media, who deemed the remarks disrespectful towards a club currently facing dire challenges in the league.

In response to the backlash, Rodri reached out to Valencia's captain and fellow Spain international José Gayà, along with the entire squad, to express his regret. “I want to make it clear that it was simply an expression of surprise,” Rodri stated after Barcelona's subsequent Champions League victory over Feyenoord. He emphasized that he did not intend to mock anyone or diminish the struggles of the team.

Rodri further explained that his comments were misinterpreted and taken out of context, asserting, “But at no point did I mean any disrespect. My apologies to Valencia.” As it stands, Valencia is languishing at the bottom of La Liga, having failed to secure a win in their opening four matches, while Barcelona has enjoyed a stellar start to the season, positioning themselves as title contenders.
