RMAFC Engages Chinese Investors to Elevate Nigeria's Oil and Gas Revenue

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has embarked on a strategic initiative to attract Chinese investors to Nigeria's oil and gas sector, a move aimed at bolstering the nation's revenue streams. In a statement released by Maryam Yusuf, the Head of the Information and Public Relations Unit, the Commission is planning an Oil and Gas Investment Summit in China, tentatively set for late November 2026. This summit is envisioned as a platform to highlight Nigeria's vast investment opportunities available in the oil and gas industry.
During a recent stakeholder engagement session in Abuja, Dr. Ekene Enefe, the Chairman of RMAFC’s Investment Monitoring Committee, underscored the significance of this initiative in expanding the country’s revenue base. He emphasized that the Investment Monitoring Committee plays a crucial role in overseeing federal investments in the oil and gas sector while ensuring the country receives its rightful earnings and accruals. Dr. Enefe noted, “Our goal is to enhance investment in the sector, which is vital for Nigeria's economic growth.”
The RMAFC has made notable strides in monitoring investments within the sector, including recovering revenues and enforcing penalties against oil companies that default on their obligations under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). This includes stringent measures against gas flaring, which has been a persistent challenge for the industry. Enefe reiterated the Commission's commitment to ensuring that companies adhere to regulations, thereby safeguarding Nigeria's interests.
As Nigeria seeks to revitalize its oil and gas industry amidst fluctuating global prices, attracting foreign investment is crucial. The engagement with Chinese investors reflects a broader strategy to diversify the investment portfolio and enhance operational efficiency within the sector. The upcoming summit is expected to draw significant interest from potential investors looking to capitalize on Nigeria’s rich oil and gas reserves.
