In a concerted effort to enhance community health, over 600 residents of Onihale in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State have benefited from a free medical screening and food supply initiative. This outreach, conducted by the faith-driven charity Africa Needs U (ANU) in partnership with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Living Praise Assembly, aimed to identify and mitigate health risks linked to chronic diseases.
During the two-day event, healthcare professionals uncovered alarming risk factors associated with hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases among participants. Dr. Bankole Abiola, who led the medical team, emphasized that many of these potentially life-threatening conditions often go undetected until they escalate into serious health crises. He stressed, "Preventive medicine is about identifying health risks before they develop into severe conditions, and this screening is a vital step in that direction."
The initiative also included preventive health education designed to empower community members with knowledge about maintaining their health and recognizing early warning signs of illness. By combining medical screenings with food relief, the outreach addressed not only immediate health concerns but also the economic challenges faced by many residents.
As Nigeria grapples with rising rates of non-communicable diseases, such community-based interventions are becoming increasingly essential. Such initiatives not only provide critical health services but also foster a sense of solidarity and support within communities, underlining the importance of collective action in tackling public health challenges.
