Salihu Lukman, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and convenor of the G100 coalition, has revealed that opposition parties are making notable strides towards forming a cohesive alliance in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Lukman highlighted the group's success in persuading various political factions and their presidential candidates to collaborate in order to bolster the opposition's strength against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“When we came together as G100, our objective was to engage the political parties and their candidates and get them to recognize the challenge,” Lukman stated. He expressed optimism about the progress made, noting, “So far, the indicators are there; we have succeeded beyond some of our expectations, and I’m sure the leadership of the parties will begin to make public statements themselves to indicate the direction they are going.”

The G100 coalition comprises representatives from multiple opposition parties, including the ADC, Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). Recently, six of these opposition parties held discussions with five presidential candidates as part of their strategy to unify and present a formidable challenge in the upcoming elections.

Lukman’s remarks underscore the growing momentum within the opposition as they seek to consolidate their efforts ahead of a pivotal electoral season. The consultations involved key figures such as Atiku Abubakar of the ADC and Seyi Makinde of the APM, indicating a serious commitment to a united front against the APC. With the elections approaching, the stakes have never been higher for Nigeria’s political landscape.
