As part of the World Teachers’ Day celebrations, Ogun State has made a landmark commitment to its educational sector by employing 7,000 teachers and earmarking a substantial N24 billion for educational infrastructure development. This initiative, announced by Governor Dapo Abiodun, aims to address the critical need for qualified educators and modern learning environments in the state.

The governor's announcement reflects the administration's dedication to enhancing the quality of education, particularly in rural and underserved areas. In addition to the new hires, over 1,500 interns from the Ogun State Teaching Internship Programme (OgunTEACh) have been absorbed into the mainstream civil service, further bolstering the teaching workforce.

During the event, the state government celebrated the contributions of outstanding teachers, schools, and administrators, distributing over N51 million in awards. This recognition not only serves to honor individual achievements but also highlights the collective effort required to improve educational outcomes across Ogun State.

“This investment is a testament to our unwavering commitment to fostering an environment where education thrives,” Governor Abiodun stated during the ceremony. “Our teachers are the backbone of our educational system, and we must equip them with the necessary tools to succeed.”

The governor's initiative is expected to significantly impact student learning experiences, as well as encourage more qualified individuals to consider teaching as a profession. By prioritizing education and investing in its teachers, Ogun State is setting a precedent for others to follow in Nigeria.
