This initiative comes as part of Nigeria's broader strategy to elevate its performance in gymnastics, particularly in preparation for the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the 2027 African Games scheduled to take place in Egypt.
GFN President, who revealed the details of the agreement, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in enhancing the skills and knowledge of Nigerian officials. “This partnership is a crucial step towards improving our gymnastics program and ensuring that our athletes are well-prepared for global competitions,” the GFN President stated. He expressed optimism that the training will not only benefit the coaches and judges but will also have a ripple effect on the athletes, ultimately leading to better performance on the world stage.
In addition to coaching and judging training, the agreement allows Nigerian athletes to prepare in Turkey, providing them access to superior facilities and training regimes. This strategic move aims to enhance the athletes' readiness and competitiveness as they strive for excellence in future tournaments.
