The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, detaining two Nigerian nationals returning from Europe with a staggering 200 wraps of cocaine. The agency revealed that a body scan conducted on the suspects indicated the presence of foreign objects in their stomachs, prompting further investigation.
The two men, who were on flight AF 832, are now facing serious legal repercussions as the NDLEA intensifies its efforts against drug trafficking. This incident underscores the ongoing battle between Nigerian authorities and drug traffickers, who often use innovative methods to smuggle illegal substances into the country.
In a statement, the NDLEA expressed its commitment to combating drug-related crimes, emphasizing that such arrests are crucial in dismantling trafficking networks that exploit vulnerable individuals. The agency continues to enhance its surveillance and detection capabilities to prevent drug smuggling at Nigerian airports.
“We remain resolute in our mission to protect our nation from the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking,” said an NDLEA spokesperson.
This latest arrest serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement in Nigeria, as drug trafficking remains a pervasive issue affecting various segments of society. The NDLEA urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
