NDC Asserts Readiness for 2027 Elections, Claims Candidates in 28 States

In a bold declaration regarding the 2027 general elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has affirmed its preparedness to contest in all 28 states, countering claims that it lacks governorship candidates in a dozen regions. Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, vehemently dismissed such assertions as political propaganda aimed at undermining the party's credibility ahead of the pivotal elections.

Speaking on Arise TV, Umeh confidently stated, "We have candidates for all the elective positions, including 109 senatorial candidates and 360 House of Representatives candidates." He highlighted Zamfara State as a particular example, where Senator Kabiru Marafa, his former colleague in the 8th Senate, is slated as the NDC's governorship candidate.

The NDC plans to bolster its electoral strategy by deploying agents to every polling unit across the country, ensuring that its votes are protected from potential malpractices. Umeh emphasized the party's growing grassroots membership, indicating a strengthening political foundation. "The party is very entrenched and is amassing membership by the day," he noted, projecting confidence in the NDC's ability to make significant electoral gains.

However, Umeh faced scrutiny when asked to provide concrete evidence of the party's popularity across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. While he asserted the NDC's expanding political base, he could not immediately present independent sentiment-analysis data to substantiate his claims. This lack of empirical evidence may pose challenges as the party seeks to solidify its position in the competitive political landscape ahead of the elections.
