Naira Strengthens to N1,357 per Dollar in Parallel Market Amidst Fluctuations
The Naira has seen a slight improvement in the parallel market, rising to N1,357 per dollar, while the official exchange rate shows a depreciation to N1,332.9. This shift highlights ongoing volatility in Nigeria's foreign exchange landscape.

The Nigerian Naira experienced a modest rise in the parallel market, appreciating to N1,357 per dollar from the previous rate of N1,362 observed last weekend. This fluctuation reflects the continuous volatility in the country's currency exchange environment, which has become a point of concern for both businesses and consumers alike.
In contrast, the Naira's performance in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) showed a downward trend, depreciating to N1,332.9 per dollar from N1,332. This represents a notable decline of 90 kobo, indicating the complexities and challenges that the currency faces amidst varying market pressures.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reported that the margin between the parallel and official exchange rates has narrowed to N24.1 per dollar, down from N30 per dollar last weekend, suggesting a slight alignment between the two markets. However, the interbank turnover in the NFEM saw a significant drop of 66 percent, decreasing from $154.02 million to $72.12 million, raising questions about liquidity and market confidence.
"The ongoing fluctuations in the Naira's value underscore the need for effective monetary policies and interventions to stabilize the currency and restore confidence among investors," an economic analyst noted.
As the Naira navigates this challenging landscape, both policymakers and market participants are urged to closely monitor these developments, as they may have broader implications for Nigeria's economy, trade activities, and overall financial stability.
