Naira Maintains Stability Against Dollar Amid Strong Liquidity Support

The Nigerian Naira opened today, October 30, 2026, maintaining a steady position against the United States Dollar across both the official foreign exchange market and the parallel market. This stability can be attributed to ongoing liquidity interventions by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) alongside healthy inflows from the diaspora, which have supported the local currency amid fluctuating global economic conditions.
In the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the spot exchange rate was recorded at N1,346.86 per dollar during early trading. Commercial banks and corporate importers have noted that liquidity conditions remain orderly, with the demand for foreign exchange for trade obligations, tuition fees, and capital repatriation being adequately met across authorized channels.
Conversely, in the parallel market, often referred to as the black market, street traders and Bureau De Change operators in major economic hubs such as Lagos, Abuja, and Kano reported buying rates around N1,375 per dollar, with selling rates hovering near N1,385. This narrow price gap between the official and parallel markets suggests a relatively balanced trading environment, which is crucial for maintaining confidence in the currency.
Financial analysts attribute the Naira's relative stability to Nigeria's robust foreign reserve buffer, which exceeds $55 billion. This substantial reserve allows the central bank to mitigate short-term demand shocks and sustain stability across various trading channels. Market experts predict that trading conditions will remain stable throughout the business day as routine demand continues to be absorbed by market liquidity.
