In a significant development in the fight against banditry, local hunters in the Falgore Forest, located in the Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State, successfully neutralized two suspected bandits and recovered a ransom of ₦10 million. The recovery comes after the ransom was paid for the release of 45-year-old Kabiru Aliyu, who was kidnapped on September 11, 2026, and held captive for several days before his release on Saturday.
According to a statement from the Kano State Police Command, the incident unfolded around midnight when three armed individuals emerged from the forest to collect the ransom. Shortly after the exchange, local hunters, known as Yan Bula, ambushed the suspects as they attempted to return to their hideout. During the confrontation, two of the bandits were killed, while a third managed to escape with injuries.
“During the ambush, two of the suspected bandits were neutralized, while the third suspect escaped with injuries. The entire ransom sum of ₦10 million was recovered intact from the neutralised suspects,”
the statement read. The police have identified one of the deceased suspects as Dogo Isah, a commercial motorcycle rider originally from Maigwanda Village in the Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State. This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the region, as local residents take matters into their own hands in the absence of effective policing.
As Nigeria grapples with rising cases of kidnapping and banditry, the actions of the local hunters reflect a growing trend where communities are mobilizing to protect themselves. Police authorities continue to urge citizens to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to help combat the scourge of violent crime, while also emphasizing the need for comprehensive strategies to enhance security across the nation.
