The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is making strides to enhance educational accessibility for Nigerian students living in Canada by planning to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in the country by 2027. This initiative was revealed during a recent visit by JAMB Registrar Segun Aina to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, where he engaged in discussions concerning the logistics and implementation of the proposed examination centre.

Establishing a UTME centre in Canada is expected to significantly ease the process for Nigerian students seeking to gain admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Currently, many students residing abroad face the challenge of traveling back to Nigeria to sit for the examination, a situation that often incurs substantial travel and accommodation costs.

In a statement following the discussions, Aina emphasized the importance of this initiative in facilitating educational opportunities for the Nigerian diaspora. He noted, “We believe that this centre will not only serve as a hub for examinations but also support Nigerian students in their academic pursuits without the burden of long-distance travel.”

This move aligns with JAMB's broader strategy to adapt to the needs of Nigerian students globally, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in the educational sector. As the plan unfolds, stakeholders are optimistic that it will pave the way for more Nigerian students to achieve their academic goals seamlessly.
