The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has taken a significant step to safeguard fuel consumers by establishing a task force dedicated to addressing the rampant issue of shortchanging at filling stations. This announcement came after an emergency Annual General Meeting held in Enugu, where IPMAN members convened with representatives from the Petroleum Dealers Association of Nigeria and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

During the meeting, the need for immediate action was highlighted, as numerous complaints from consumers have surfaced regarding inadequate fuel deliveries at various filling stations. The task force will be responsible for monitoring compliance among fuel retailers and ensuring that customers receive the full quantity of fuel they pay for, thereby restoring trust in the sector.

“We cannot allow our members to continue engaging in practices that harm consumers and tarnish our reputation,” stated a representative from IPMAN during the meeting. The association aims to foster a fair and transparent fuel distribution system that benefits both consumers and legitimate operators in the industry.

As the task force begins its work, IPMAN has urged consumers to report any instances of shortchanging, emphasizing that the association is committed to investigating complaints thoroughly. This proactive approach is anticipated to have a positive impact on consumer confidence and the overall integrity of fuel sales in Nigeria.
