Igbo Foundation Affirms Support for Peter Obi Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Igbo Heroes and Icons Foundation has made a bold statement regarding the upcoming 2027 presidential election, asserting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should not anticipate significant electoral support from the South-East region. This announcement comes in response to recent appeals by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, who urged South-East voters to back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election during her visit to Imo State.

Hon. Chinedu Nsofor, the National Coordinator of the foundation, emphasized that while not every Igbo person supports a single candidate, there is a prevailing sentiment in the region favoring Peter Obi as a viable candidate. Nsofor stated, “There is unmistakable political sentiment across the South-East that the region should have a serious opportunity to produce the next President of Nigeria, and Peter Obi remains the dominant expression of that aspiration in the zone.”

In his remarks, Nsofor underscored the importance of recognizing the political landscape of the South-East, advising the APC against viewing the region merely as a political marketplace where financial incentives or appointments could guarantee votes. He conveyed that the electorate in the area is keenly aware of their political agency and aspirations, which extend beyond mere transactional politics.
