The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has announced the approval of ₦3.6 billion dedicated to the payment of pensions, gratuities, and death benefits for retirees. This decision signifies the administration's commitment to ensuring that retired civil servants and their families receive the financial support they deserve, particularly in these challenging economic times.
According to Ahmed Maiyaki, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, this recent payment will benefit approximately 9,683 retirees and eligible family members. The cumulative pension disbursement since the inception of Governor Sani's administration in May 2023 now totals ₦21.455 billion, highlighting a sustained effort to address the financial needs of those who have served the state.
“This allocation is a testament to our administration's commitment to the welfare of retirees,” said Maiyaki. “We recognize the sacrifices made by these individuals and are dedicated to ensuring they receive their entitlements promptly.”
The focus on timely pension payments is particularly crucial as many retirees depend on these funds for their livelihood. The administration's initiative reflects a broader strategy to stabilize the financial situation of retirees amidst economic pressures, thereby fostering a sense of security for those who have dedicated their lives to public service.
As the state government continues to prioritize pension payments, it sets a precedent for other states in Nigeria to follow suit. With an increasing number of retirees, the call for efficient management of pension funds and timely disbursements has never been more critical.
