In a significant push towards improving healthcare delivery in Anambra State, Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has called for a strategic partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN). Speaking at the opening of the 99th Annual National Delegate Conference in Awka, Soludo emphasized the critical role pharmacists play in developing an effective healthcare system, especially in light of recent reforms his administration has implemented.
Soludo described the conference, themed 'Ijele 2026', as historic and underscored his government’s commitment to human capital development, education, and healthcare. He pointed to initiatives such as the introduction of free education from kindergarten to Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) and the provision of free antenatal care in government hospitals as pivotal steps taken to enhance the quality of life for Anambra residents.
During his address, the governor revealed that over 250,000 expectant mothers have benefited from free antenatal care, and more than 950 Caesarean Section operations have been performed at no cost to patients. These measures reflect Soludo's dedication to ensuring that healthcare services are accessible and affordable for all citizens.
Furthermore, Governor Soludo announced ongoing projects aimed at reinforcing Anambra's reputation as Nigeria's leading pharmaceutical hub. He highlighted the development of a state-of-the-art Pharmaceutical Hub in Oba and a Coordinated Wholesale Centre, both of which are expected to be operational by early next year. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the pharmaceutical landscape in the state, fostering collaboration with pharmacists to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services.
