Governor Nwifuru Urges Local Government Leaders to Prioritize Prudent Fund Management

In a bid to enhance governance at the grassroots level, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has urged newly elected local government chairmen and council officials to adopt prudent fund management practices. This call to action was made during the opening of a three-day capacity-building workshop in Abakaliki, aimed at equipping local leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage public resources.

Governor Nwifuru emphasized the significance of the training, which included participation from heads of personnel management, public relations practitioners, treasurers, and coordinators of development centres. He stressed that the successful implementation of the People’s Charter of Needs agenda hinges on local government officials' ability to understand governance processes and engage citizens in decision-making.

“Serving the public is not an avenue to make money,” Nwifuru asserted, reinforcing the necessity for dedication and integrity among local officials. He urged participants to recognize that the legacies they build will ultimately define their tenure and impact the communities they serve. The governor's remarks were bolstered by the presence of speakers from various law enforcement agencies, who were invited to provide insights on effective governance.

“You must at all times know that the legacies you build in the LGA will speak for you,” Nwifuru stated, calling for a commitment to excellence in public service.

As part of his administration's focus on human capacity development, Nwifuru reiterated that the training would provide local leaders with vital tools to improve service delivery and governance in their respective areas. His administration remains committed to fostering an environment where local governments can thrive through responsible management and community engagement.
