Governor Mbah of Enugu State has called on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to prioritize the establishment of a gas pipeline and the development of regional railways. During a meeting with the Senate Committee on the SEDC, led by Chairman Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the governor stressed the significance of these infrastructures in promoting industrialization and economic growth within the South East region.
Mbah highlighted the potential benefits of a dedicated gas pipeline, which he believes could serve as a catalyst for energy supply in various sectors, thus fostering a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. He remarked, "The development of a reliable gas pipeline is crucial for our industries, as it will not only provide the necessary energy resources but also attract investments to our region."
In addition to the gas pipeline, the governor underscored the importance of revamping railway systems to enhance connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods and services across the South East. He stated that improved railway infrastructure would significantly reduce transportation costs and improve trade efficiency, ultimately leading to a more robust regional economy.
Senator Kalu, in response to the governor's calls, pledged the committee's commitment to addressing these vital infrastructural needs. He acknowledged the pivotal role that the SEDC plays in driving development initiatives and assured that the committee would work diligently to ensure that these projects receive the necessary attention and funding.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on the need for continuous collaboration between the state government and the SEDC to realize these ambitious projects, which are seen as essential for the economic resurgence of the South East.
