Flavio Bolsonaro Exits Brazil for the US Amid Legal Troubles Following Election Defeat
Flavio Bolsonaro, the defeated right-wing presidential candidate and son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, has reportedly fled to the United States despite a court order barring his departure from Brazil. In a surprising turn of events, Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, has reportedly left Brazil for the United States following his defeat in the recent presidential elections. Despite a court ruling prohibiting him from leaving, he is said to be traveling to Florida, raising questions about his compliance with Brazilian law.
Bolsonaro's election loss to incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has intensified scrutiny on him, as he is currently under investigation for alleged corruption and money laundering. With his defeat, he is set to lose the parliamentary immunity that has previously shielded him from prosecution, further complicating his legal situation.
“We still don’t have any news about his whereabouts,” said Rogerio Marinho, Bolsonaro’s campaign manager, expressing shock over the reports of his flight. “I received a text message from him this morning, where he said he would...”
The U.S. State Department has indicated that it would issue visas to Bolsonaro and his family, although it has not confirmed the details of his travel. Meanwhile, Brazilian authorities have reported that both his Brazilian and diplomatic passports have been canceled, and there is currently no formal record of his exit from the country.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, Bolsonaro holds Italian nationality, which could provide him with an alternative pathway for international travel. This development underscores the ongoing political turmoil in Brazil, as Bolsonaro's departure raises concerns about the future of political accountability and legal proceedings against him.
