First Lady Calls for Concrete Action on Charity During Global Day of Charity

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has made a passionate appeal for Nigerians to move beyond mere discussions about charity and take actionable steps to assist those in need. In her remarks to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Charity, she emphasized that charity encompasses more than just giving; it involves extending a helping hand, restoring hope, and providing support to the vulnerable members of society.

"As the world observes the International Day of Charity, we are reminded of the essential role that kindness, compassion, and generosity play in fostering a more caring and inclusive society," stated Mrs. Tinubu. She pointed out that individual acts of kindness, regardless of their scale, have the potential to significantly transform lives.

In her call to action, the First Lady encouraged citizens to actively engage in giving and volunteerism, particularly towards the less privileged. She believes that such collective efforts are vital in combating poverty and fortifying community bonds. "Through our collective action, we can help reduce poverty, strengthen our communities, and ensure that no one is left behind," she asserted.

This message aligns with Mrs. Tinubu’s ongoing commitment to social welfare initiatives, including the recent zonal rollout of the National Community Food Bank Programme in the South-South region. This program is particularly focused on supporting pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under six years old. During a visit to Calabar, she also announced financial assistance for fire victims and women’s groups, illustrating her administration's dedication to pairing symbolic gestures with substantial material support.
