The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially endorsed the launch of MyCityApp's ambitious 100-day tourism calendar, a strategic initiative aimed at driving an estimated $100 billion in economic growth through the tourism sector. The unveiling of this platform took place at the Ember2Remember National Stakeholders' Conference, which was held on Monday in Victoria Island, Lagos, attracting key figures in the tourism and hospitality industries.
During the conference, government officials highlighted the vital role of tourism in diversifying the nation's economy and creating job opportunities for millions of Nigerians. The 100-day tourism calendar is expected to provide a structured guide for both domestic and international tourists, showcasing Nigeria's rich cultural heritage, natural attractions, and vibrant festivals.
“This initiative aligns with our vision to reposition Nigeria as a top tourist destination in Africa and globally,” said a spokesperson from the Ministry of Information and Culture. “By promoting our unique offerings, we aim to not only increase tourist footfall but also enhance local businesses and communities.”
Industry experts believe that the MyCityApp initiative could serve as a catalyst for sustainable tourism growth, allowing local entrepreneurs to thrive while preserving Nigeria's cultural and environmental assets. As part of the plan, stakeholders will collaborate to ensure that the calendar includes a variety of events, tours, and experiences that appeal to a wide range of visitors.
The Federal Government's backing of this initiative signals a renewed commitment to leveraging tourism as a key driver of economic development, with the potential to significantly enhance Nigeria's global standing in the travel industry.
