FCT Police Launch Manhunt After Vehicle Crash Ignites Fire at Byazhin Gas Plant

The FCT Police Command has initiated a manhunt for the driver responsible for a catastrophic incident that occurred on September 27, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m. Reports indicate that the driver of an unregistered Toyota 4Runner Jeep was navigating against traffic when he lost control and collided with a cooking gas sales plant in Byazhin, leading to an explosion and subsequent fire.

According to the police, the incident was first reported by a resident at Liberty Junction, who alerted authorities to the raging inferno at the gas plant. A police team from the Kubwa Police Division was promptly dispatched to the scene, where they encountered a fire that had spread to nearby shops and properties, threatening the safety of the local community.

SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police, stated, “Upon arrival, our team quickly assessed the situation and contacted the Federal Fire Service for assistance. Their timely response was crucial in containing the fire and preventing further damage.”

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the reckless driving of the unidentified individual was the primary cause of the fire outbreak. Following the crash, the driver and the vehicle's occupants fled the scene, prompting the police to intensify efforts in locating them.
