Etsako East Council Chairman Honors Fallen Soldier with N20 Million Pledge Redemption

In a poignant display of commitment to the families of fallen heroes, Hon. Sunny Ekpeson, the Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area and leader of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Edo State, has redeemed his N20 million pledge made to the family of late Lance Corporal Fahad Sani. Sani, a dedicated soldier of the 195 Battalion, tragically died on July 2, 2026, following a road accident while returning from a critical rescue operation along the Okpella Highway.

The late soldier and his team had bravely responded to a distress call regarding kidnapped victims in the Okpella area, successfully rescuing them. However, their return journey was met with tragedy when a speeding trailer collided with their vehicle, resulting in Sani's untimely death. In the wake of this loss, Ekpeson, who was serving as the Acting Chairman of Etsako East LGA at the time, made a heartfelt commitment to support Sani's family, which includes his wife and two young children.

The redemption of this pledge took place during a presentation ceremony attended by family members of the deceased and personnel from the 195 Battalion, led by Major S.D. Balafama. During the ceremony, Balafama expressed his gratitude to Ekpeson for fulfilling his promise, stating,

“This gesture serves as a source of encouragement to the bereaved family and to our battalion. It shows that the sacrifice of Lance Corporal Sani and all personnel serving our nation is recognized and valued.”

Balafama also took the opportunity to commend Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his ongoing support for security initiatives in the region. The fulfillment of Ekpeson’s pledge not only provides financial assistance to Sani’s family but also serves as a symbol of the community's solidarity with those who serve and protect the nation.
