The South East Development Commission (SEDC) is poised to launch its inaugural agro-mechanisation project in Enugu State, a development that aims to revolutionize farming practices and boost agricultural output in the region. Mark Okoye, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, shared details of this initiative during a site and community engagement visit to the Nomeh Unateze community in Nkanu East Local Government Area on Tuesday.

This agro-mechanisation project is part of a broader strategy by the SEDC to leverage modern technology in agriculture, thereby addressing the challenges faced by local farmers. The initiative is expected to provide farmers with access to modern machinery, which can significantly enhance their productivity and efficiency.

During his visit, Okoye emphasized the importance of community involvement in the success of the project, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that the benefits of this initiative are felt directly by the farmers who are the backbone of our economy. We believe that empowering them with the right tools will lead to sustainable agricultural practices and improved livelihoods.”

The project not only signifies a step forward in agricultural innovation but also aims to create local jobs and stimulate economic growth within the region. As the SEDC readies for the flag-off, stakeholders and community members are optimistic about the potential impact on their livelihoods and the agricultural landscape of Enugu State.
